Study Shows Men with Upper Eyelid Surgery are More Likeable and Trustworthy

Upper eyelid surgery from a board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon can certainly make you look younger and healthier, but new research shows that it also helps men, in particular, seem more likable and trustworthy. At Oasis Eye Face and Skin, Dr. Schiedler is an eye specialist who attended the top programs in the country and is the only expert you should trust with upper eyelid surgery in Medford.

According to research in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, in a study of 24 men (average age of 49) who underwent a variety of facial cosmetic surgery, upper eyelid surgery yielded particularly positive results.

Other Treatments Men Opted-In For

In addition to upper eyelid surgery, also known as upper blepharoplasty, the men opted for lower eyelid reduction, neck lifts, chin implants, facelifts, brow lifts, and nose reshaping. All participants agreed to have before and after photos taken. These photos were then shared with 145 strangers who were asked to guess the men’s personality traits and aesthetics. The respondents ranged from 25 – 34 years old, and rated how masculine, attractive, extroverted, likable, sociable, trustworthy, aggressive, and risk-seeking the men seemed to be. However, they didn’t know what the goals of the study entailed.

Overall, facial plastic surgery made men seem more attractive, trustworthy, likable, and sociable. However, upper eyelid surgery, in particular, made them seem more likable and trustworthy. Brow lifts made them appear more extroverted and likely to take risks. According to the lead researcher, “The tendency to judge facial appearance is likely rooted in evolution … taken together, our findings suggest that both men and women undergoing facial cosmetic surgery can experience not only an improved perception of attractiveness but other positive changes in society’s perception of their persona.”

Are You Covered?

Many times, upper eyelid surgery is also covered by insurance. If a person has ptosis, a medical condition that can lead to severe droopiness that interferes with vision, they may qualify to have upper blepharoplasty covered.
