Deep Chemical Peel vs. Facelift

Will a deep chemical peel or a facelift give you the results you want? Many of Dr. Schiedler’s patients are surprised to discover that a deep chemical peel is also a deserving facelift alternative. The results of the two can be very similar, although of course the approaches are wildly different. If you want to look years younger and achieve skin that is taut, gorgeous, and glowing, a deep chemical peel might be a better option than a facelift.

Benefits of a Deep Chemical Peel

There are varying degrees of chemical peels, and a deep chemical peel is 100% specialized and customized for each individual patient. Facelifts are a popular anti-aging surgery, with surgery being the key word. A facelift removes excess skin and tissue to minimize wrinkles and fine lines, but keep in mind that a facelift only addresses the lower portion of the face. It does not lift or tighten the forehead or eye area. A facelift requires incisions around the ear and lower hairline in order to pull facial skin tighter. Facelifts make the neck and lower half of the face look firmer and more youthful, and while there is scarring the incisions are as well hidden as possible.

Deep chemical peels firm and tighten the entire face, and also work as a skin resurfacing treatment to improve skin texture. A combination of acids is used to vanquish lines and wrinkles as well as blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and even scarring. During a deep chemical peel, the solution is applied to the skin and then removed after an appropriate amount of time. This causes the top layers of skin to “peel” away over the next few days. A deep chemical peel, just like a facelift, does require a recovery period. Most patients take a few days off of work. However, within one week a deep chemical peel resembles a sunburn and most patients feel comfortable enough to return to many of their daily activities.

Look Younger Without Surgery

A deep chemical peel is not a surgery, and as such does not come with the inherent risks and longer recovery period of a surgery. There are no incisions and the risk of infection is dramatically lower. While a facelift certainly makes half of the facial skin more taut, a chemical peel tightens the entire face while also revitalizing the skin and addressing a myriad of additional concerns ranging from scars to blemishes.
