Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Lift (Men, You’ll Especially Want to Know)

The “eyes” don’t always have it, especially when it comes to deciding the best type of lift for you. At Oasis Eye Face and Skin, board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Schiedler often sees patients interested in eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty surgery) who are better candidates for a brow lift. We are naturally drawn to a person’s eyes, but they are just one feature—albeit an important one—of the overall face.

As an eye specialist who trained at the top programs in the country, Dr. Schiedler is an expert at guiding patients towards the best procedures to achieve their desired results. In some cases, this may be eyelid surgery combined with a brow lift. There are two different types of eyelid surgeries (upper and lower) and different types of brow lifts including a lateral brow lift and full brow lift.

The benefits of a brow lift

Brow lifts raise the brow, affecting not only the brow area itself but also the eyes. If you have a “heavy” brow with forehead wrinkles, this is likely also affecting the eyes. A brow lift can raise the forehead, eyebrows, and upper eye area. An eyelid lift affects only the eye area. Brow lifts and eyelid lifts can yield incredible results, but it’s not always easy for patients to know which procedure is the right one. During a consultation with Dr. Schiedler, you can explore the benefits of each and learn which procedure is best.

If a brow lift is a right fit for you, there’s some fascinating new research featured in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery that focuses exclusively on men. It seems that men who undergo facial surgery aren’t just seen as more attractive, but also more likable and trustworthy. According to lead researcher Michael Reilly, “different anatomic areas of the face have varying degrees of contribution to overall personality perception.” The study included 24 men at Georgetown University whose before and after photos were shown to 150 people. Of course, not many people are going to seek out a brow lift specifically to be seen as more trustworthy. However, it is still a welcome benefit if the research is correct.
