What Is CO2 Laser Rejuvenation?
CO2 laser rejuvenation, or laser resurfacing, is a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment designed to renew your skin. By delivering controlled, high-energy pulses, it can stimulate collagen production and the skin’s natural healing mechanisms. The CO2 laser delivers pinpoint fractional laser energy to the skin, creating microscopic channels. Your body responds to this with collagen remodeling and skin regeneration. Additionally, the laser energy heats the underlying tissue to further stimulate skin tightening.
When performed by Dr. Schiedler, with customized settings, the treatment can:

Adjunct to Lower Blepharoplasty

She does this after removing under-eye bags with a scarless approach to lower blepharoplasty, then lasering the skin at the end of the procedure to provide enhanced smoothing and tightening of the lower eyelids.

- Relax: Dr. Schiedler performs each laser treatment at Ashland Surgery Center with patients under general anesthesia or deep IV sedation and nerve blocks. This ensures a pain-free experience while delivering optimal laser energy to promote more transformative results.
- Rejuvenate: Dr. Schiedler runs the laser over your skin in a grid or dot pattern. She takes care to give each portion of skin optimal treatment settings to ensure safety and efficacy. In total, your treatment should take about 60 minutes for full face.
- Recover: After the treatment, you can return home the same day to begin the recovery process. Dr. Schiedler will provide comprehensive post-treatment instructions to facilitate smoother recovery and optimal results. Most patients feel minimal discomfort and do not need pain medication while healing.

CO2 laser skin rejuvenation can provide outstanding results for patients across different age groups, even those with notable signs of aging. How long is the recovery?
Total recovery time will vary, depending on three main factors:

The early healing period lasts about 10 days, where the skin surface laser channels are healing and can feel like sandpaper. Lasered skin needs a lot of hydration during this time and we provide all your skin care products to speed healing and promote comfort. Social downtime is usually around seven to 10 days. You can begin using makeup on day 10. This initial period will involve some swelling and redness, accompanied by a mild sunburn feeling. Other normal side effects include itchiness or tightness. After day ten, the old skin has peeled off, revealing fresher, healthier skin beneath. Collagen continues to build for the next 6 months, continuing to tighten the skin. Pinkness can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months but is easy to camouflage.
Aftercare plays a vital role not only in time of recovery but your final results. Dr. Schiedler provides each patient with clear, complete instructions. Aftercare typically involves:
- Keeping your skin clean and hydrated

- Avoiding sun exposure until your skin is fully healed

When will I see results?
Your results should begin to show through after about 2–3 weeks, on average. The outer layer of skin will first need to heal to reveal the rejuvenated skin beneath.
How long do CO2 laser resurfacing results last?
Months to years—it depends on the number and intensity of your treatment. Following treatment, patients should see continued improvements for about 3 to 6 months. During this period, your body should continue to undergo collagen remodeling, which provides continuous benefits. Afterward, your results will still be visible for a while, especially with a healthy skin care routine and sun avoidance.
Will I need to prepare for the procedure?
Yes! Preparation plays an integral role in improving your outcomes and reducing the risk for pigmentation issues. Dr. Schiedler offers a specialized Skin Prep set of products to prepare your skin for your session. We recommend starting to use these products about 4 weeks prior to laser. This preparation regimen will help your skin heal better and faster with enhanced results.
How much does CO2 laser rejuvenation cost?
The fee for laser rejuvenation varies depending on the areas of the face to be treated. This fee incorporates your recovery skin care products and any needed post care appointments for 6 months.
If the laser treatment is part of lower eyelid blepharoplasty, the laser fee will be included in your total for the procedure. We can provide this quote during your consultation based on your procedure details.
