Featured here is a patient that had a blockage in the tear duct for several years, which caused a chronic swelling of an infected tear sac near the inner corner of the eye. Dr. Schiedler performed a dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) to bypass the blocked tear duct and re-establish the patient’s tear flow. In the after photo, you can see a well healing with a discrete, small incision in the skin. If you look closely, you can see a tiny silicone tube crossing from the inner corner of the eye from the upper eyelid to the lower eyelid. This small tubing helps keep the new passageway open for a few weeks after surgery and is removed easily in the office once tear flow has been established into the nose.
