Orbital Fracture

Trauma to the eye area may result in serious injuries that can cause vision loss, double vision, or blindness. Repair of an eye socket fracture is usually done by an oculoplastic surgeon because there are a lot of important visual structures such as nerves, blood vessels, and eye muscles in a very compact space. In most cases, it is usually best to wait until some swelling has improved before repairing a fracture, in order to allow more room to work inside the orbit, so the least amount of pressure can be placed on the eye itself. In some cases, small fractures may be observed and not necessarily need repair at all.
