Are your wrinkles and forehead furrows causing you to look older than you are? Do people ask you if you are angry or upset? Do you have a sad looking eyebrow shape? Is your smile showing too much of the gums above your teeth? Does your smile cause excessive wrinkling around your eyes?
Dr. Vivian Schiedler can help you look more relaxed, energetic, and youthful by softening the wrinkles in the forehead and that area between the eyebrows, as well as many other areas of the face. Her surgical expertise and precision carries over into her injectable practice. You probably have heard of BOTOX® Cosmetic, but there are other injectable options including Dysport®.
What Is Dysport®?
Dysport® has been used in Europe for over 15 years. This product was approved in 2009 for use in the US by the FDA as an injectable to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (lines between the eye brows and forehead) in adults.
How Does Dysport® Work?
Dysport® is an injectable form of botulinum toxin, much like BOTOX® Cosmetic. Dr. Schiedler judiciously uses small amounts of this medication and gently injects it into specific wrinkle-causing muscles to temporarily weaken them, or to allow other muscles to work better. She carefully studies each person’s unique facial muscles and expressions to determine how to achieve the most pleasing and natural result. This can vary significantly from person to person, as all the muscles of the face work together in a complex way.
Dysport® is injected in similar fashion as BOTOX® Cosmetic and has been reported to have many similarities. However, Dr. Schiedler is noticing that Dysport® may act quicker and has a wider area of spread, thereby providing a smoother, more airbrushed appearance. In some cases, wrinkles begin to fade as soon as 24 hours after receiving Dysport® treatment.
What are the Side effects of Dysport®?
Potential side effects of Dysport® are similar to those associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment. Usually there is no downtime with this procedure. However, mild bruising and swelling can sometimes occur. These side effects can be mitigated by placing ice on the injection site before and after the procedure. Rarely, the medication can spread too far and affect undesired muscles. Dr. Schiedler gives all her clients detailed instructions on how to avoid this problem.
How Long Does Dysport ® Treatment Last?
Clinical studies demonstrate that Dysport® may last longer than BOTOX® Cosmetic. Some studies have shown that Dysport® injections may keep wrinkles at bay up to six months, as opposed to the approximate three to four month timeframe associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic.
